Sworn and legalized translations

Do you need to have an official document translated to use it abroad? Then you need a sworn translator.

We have specialized in sworn translations for decades. For this we work together with an extensive network of translators, in an endless number of language combinations.

Do you also need to legalize your document?
We will arrange that for you too!

Sworn translation

A sworn translator takes an oath before the court, after which he is legally allowed to translate documents for which that attestation is required. He makes an official translation of it with his own signature and stamp.

You often only need a sworn translation if a legal procedure requires it. This means that not every translation with an official character must be sworn in. It is therefore best to check with the party requesting the translation whether the translation needs to be certified.

Sworn translations are – usually – required for:

· Marriage certificates

· Birth certificates

· Contracts

· Bank documents

· Proof of good conduct and morals

· Passports

· Diplomas

Is a sworn translation not necessary? Then you can get the document translated by a non-sworn legal translator, which saves you a lot of time and costs.

Which documents?

Legalization:
often not necessary!

During the legalization (or apostille), an official of the FPS Justice checks whether the translated document is in conformity. If everything is correct, he puts a stamp on it.
The recipient abroad will then know for sure that the document has an official character.

NB: legalization is often superfluous, certainly in the European Union. So be sure to check whether you need to legalize the translation. This way you avoid extra costs.

Don't forget that sworn translations often still go by post (registered) from one authority to another. Such a delivery takes extra time!
